LastRetry vs Paddle Retain (ProfitWell Retain)
ProfitWell Retain is now Paddle Retain: built into Paddle Billing at no extra cost, and available for Stripe and other billing systems too. LastRetry is Stripe-only and charges a share of recoveries.
| LastRetry | Paddle Retain (ProfitWell Retain) | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | 10% of recovered revenue up to $50K MRR, 7% to $250K, 5% to $500K. Nothing if nothing is recovered. | No extra cost on Paddle Billing. Otherwise performance-based for larger companies, flat fee for smaller ones from $500/month (per Paddle's help center). |
| Billing platforms | Stripe | Paddle Billing, plus Braintree, Chargebee, Chargify, ReCharge, Recurly, Stripe Billing and Zuora. |
| Retries | Planned per decline reason: payday timing for insufficient funds, back-off for soft declines, no retries for expired, lost or stolen cards. | "Tactical Retries" timed on day of week, failure code, card type, location and more. On Paddle Billing: up to 7 retries over about 20 days; timing isn't customisable; fraud-flagged and first-time payments aren't retried. |
| Emails | Sent in your name, written per decline reason; A/B tests against your own copy; AI drafts you approve. | Up to 4 automated recovery emails from your sender address; skipped once a retry succeeds. |
| SMS | Optional for high-value customers, with a card update link. $0.10 per text. | Not mentioned on their pages. |
| Card update page | Stripe-hosted card page; the new card becomes the default and the invoice is charged at once. | Localized, with Google Pay and Apple Pay, no sign-in required; also updates expiring cards. |
| In-app notices | Banner script for customers with an open case (customer id signed on your server). | Persistent in-app prompt for past-due customers (needs Paddle.js). |
| Cancel flows | Not included. LastRetry handles failed payments only. | Automated cancellation flows with retention offers. |

What the pricing difference means
On Paddle Billing, Retain comes at no extra cost. For other setups, Paddle's help center describes performance-based pricing for larger companies and a flat fee for smaller ones, starting at $500 a month; neither page says exactly which customers each applies to. At LastRetry's 10% rate, our fee reaches $500 in a month where we recover $5,000.
